Do’s and Don’ts after hiatus hernia surgery:
Do’s
- To get out of bed within 4 to 6 hours after laparoscopic surgery for hiatus hernia. Of course it has to be done under medical supervision of your doctor and hospital staff. Early mobilization helps to reduce the risk of blood clots (venous thrombo-embolism)
- Oral liquids are generally started after 6 hours of surgery as per your surgeon’s advice. You will be on liquid diet for two days after the surgery.
- Once you go home the next day, please remain active. Activity should be moderate. Laparoscopic surgery allows you a fair degree of activity soon after surgery
- You will most likely have waterproof dressings over the surgery cuts. This allows you to take a shower from the next day after surgery.
- Please continue all medications as prescribed by your surgeon.
- Please visit the doctor duly on the scheduled follow up date for a check up.
Don’ts
- Please avoid oily and spicy diet for a month after the surgery.
- Please avoid bedrest
- Please avoid rigorous exercises and gymming for 3 months
- Please avoid lifting very heavy weights for 3 months
