I am very passionate about obesity and bariatric surgery. As a first step, I feel very strongly about the stigma associated with the disease of obesity. There is no other disease in this world where patients are blamed and faulted for getting the disease. The fact that till date we do not have a medical drug for treatment of obesity is a proof in itself that we have yet not been able to understand the root cause of this disease. Obesity is multi-factorial and has strong genetic and neuro-hormonal origins. It is also the root cause of many associated diseases. Treatment of obesity must be done as per the grade of the disease. Presently obesity is graded as per BMI criteria. Patients in overweight and grade 1 category can usually be treated with diet and lifestyle modification. Patients in grade 2 and 3 may be considered for bariatric surgery depending on their clinical profile. Best Bariatric surgery in mumbai is presently the only effective treatment option for the management of clinically severe obesity. In this TV interview we have discussed these points in more detail.
