Goal setting at Apollo Spectra Chembur

Bariatric Surgery Support Group Meeting

28th April 2018

Venue: Apollo Spectra Chembur

Theme: Goal setting

One of the most difficult post-operative challenge after bariatric surgery is – Setting realistic goals!

The ultimate goal of each patient is to achieve the expected weight loss in the first two years post bariatric surgery. Sometimes patients may have unrealistic targets after surgery. Thus, it is very important to counsel these patients from time to time to have small acievable goals.

Ms. Rajshree (Clinical counsellor) from Adveka Foundation made the process of goal setting look so smooth and doable. She discussed few easy-to-follow strategies on making concrete/ realistic goals and how to make small short term goals in order to achieve a bigger long term goal. The importance of making time-bound goals was the major highlight of the session.

Sticking to goals and ensuring that they are achieved requires a lot of motivation. Thus, she spoke about some simple strategies to stay motivated like visually imagining yourself succeeding at your goals, treat yourself at regular intervals on being successful at attaining goals or have a role model whom you can look up to.

The session ended with a relaxation technique. When everyone opened their eyes, a spark of enthusiasm in working hard to attain goals was clearly visible.
