Following precautions must be taken after gall bladder surgery/laparoscopic cholecystectomy
- For the first 2 to 3 days after the surgery, it is advised to have soft and bland diet.
- Hydrate yourself well by drinking adequate amount of water.
- Avoid very oily and fatty food soon after surgery. The function of the gall bladder is to help in digestion and after its removal, it takes some time for the body to adjust. Oily and fatty food must be avoided for a minimum of 1 month after the surgery.
- Walk around and be active as per your doctor’s advice.
- Most likely you will have water proof dressings on your surgical wounds. You are allowed to take a shower. However, if the dressings are not water proof, please do not make them wet.
- Please see your doctor for follow up as advised.
- Take all medicines as advised
- Avoid rigorous activity and heavy weight lifting for about 3 months after the surgery.
- In case of fever, severe pain in the abdomen, vomiting, jaundice etc please get in touch with your doctor immediately.
